Songs From The Howling Sea – The East End
In 2010 I began a project, the first of it’s kind. For a whole year I posted weekly songs accompanied with videos, telling tales from London’s history. All songs were inspired by an event, person or place connected to the East End of London. From murderers, to prostitutes, philanthropists to eccentrics (even Stalin gets a mention!) it’s all here, and it’s all East End history circa 1700-1915.
*Several of the songs originally included in this project were later included in the Five Boroughs project. As a result only 35 of the original 52 are listed.
The Five Boroughs
In 2011 after being invited to perform at the Olympic opening of the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford, I decided to undertake another project. Following the same format of video and song, this time I drew from the history of the Five London Boroughs due to host the London 2012 Olympics; Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, Hackney, Waltham Forest, and Stratford. This collection was also hosted at www.londonist.com where it was titled ‘The Folk Olympics’.
Some of the original East End songs were included in this 24 instalment project.
